RE
RE is an important part of the curriculum and learning at Gladstone Park Primary School. We teach a range of faiths and children acquire knowledge about the key principles, beliefs and teachings of these religions. RE allows children to also explore their own beliefs and those of their community, helping them to navigate an interconnected world. Through engaging lessons and an open atmosphere, children develop the skills of critical thinking, empathy and reflection, discussing big questions and diverse perspectives with their peers and teachers. At GPPS we encourage children to build respect and positive attitudes towards different beliefs and a tolerance of different viewpoints. This enables children to become thoughtful, well-rounded members of their community and the wider world.
We use the ‘Plan Bee’ RE scheme at GPPS which helps our teachers to provide purposeful lessons about a range of religions. The learning is sequential, which means that each year as the children progress through the school, they will build on their knowledge and develop deeper understandings of key teachings, festivals and religious ceremonies and texts. Children enjoy written activities, creative opportunities and discussion-based learning all aimed to nurture curiosity about different faiths and respect and empathy for all.
