Maths
At Gladstone Park we are committed to ensuring that every child has the mathematical knowledge and understanding needed to enable them to make excellent progress and leave us with secure mathematical life skills.
At Gladstone Park, we are ambitious for all pupils to develop a deep, secure and flexible understanding of mathematics that prepares them for future learning and everyday life. In the Early Years, we follow the Effective Maths Programme, which builds strong foundations in children’s understanding of number and early mathematical concepts, setting them up for success as they transition into Year 1. From Year 1 to Year 6, our maths curriculum is underpinned by White Rose Maths, ensuring learning is carefully sequenced and progressive over time. Lessons are personalised through our six-part lesson structure, which provides explicit teaching of new methods in their simplest form, followed by a gradual handover of responsibility as pupils build confidence and independence. We embed the concrete, pictorial and abstract (CPA) approach across all year groups, giving children regular opportunities to work with manipulatives to support understanding and make mathematical concepts meaningful. Oracy is a key feature of every lesson, enabling pupils to explain their thinking, use precise mathematical language and learn from one another, and pupils are regularly challenged to deepen their understanding through problem-solving and reasoning opportunities.
