Writing
Our writing curriculum is ambitious in both scope and expectation: we want every child to become an articulate, confident writer who can communicate effectively for a wide range of purposes and audiences. We follow the Literacy Tree scheme of learning, which we have carefully adapted to meet the needs of our students, with a strong emphasis on explicit grammar teaching so that, from an early age, children understand how sentences are constructed and can use language with confidence and control. The curriculum is progressive and coherently sequenced, building securely on prior knowledge as students move through the school, and is underpinned by high-quality, diverse and engaging texts. Alongside this, our oracy curriculum plays a vital role in writing lessons, as we recognise that speaking and writing develop in tandem; students are explicitly taught how to become confident speakers and effective orators, strengthening their ability to express ideas clearly in both spoken and written forms.
