PSHE
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) is taught through a programme called Jigsaw, which supports the personal, social and emotional development of all pupils and promotes positive wellbeing. The curriculum is carefully sequenced through six half-termly ‘puzzle pieces’: Being Me in My World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships and Changing Me.
Each puzzle is introduced through assemblies to provide a shared understanding and common language across the school, before being explored in weekly class lessons. Jigsaw lessons follow a consistent structure and include ‘calm time’, which supports emotional regulation, mindfulness and readiness to learn, ensuring children feel safe, settled and ready to engage. Teaching is inclusive, age-appropriate and encourages discussion, reflection and respect for others.
Relationships, Health and Sex Education (RHSE) is fully embedded within the programme, particularly through the Relationships, Healthy Me and Changing Me puzzles, and meets all statutory requirements. Through PSHE, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to build healthy relationships, manage their emotions, make informed choices and grow into confident, respectful and responsible individuals.
